Meet the Administration

McLaurin Elementary School Principal
It is my pleasure and honor to be introduced as principal and instructional leader of THEE Gilmer McLaurin Elementary. I am extremely proud and excited to continue to be a part of our PreK-5 school community and support our teachers, students, and families. I can assure you that I share in this school community's dedication to caring for our students daily while providing them with a meaningful learning environment. We are in one of the most exciting times to be an educator. We are facing many challenges, yet we have some of the best opportunities to engage learners, the community, and each other to continue to shape what teaching and learning can look like.

I am a proud 1987 graduate of South Natchez High School. I am a 1998 Hall-of-Famer graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Natchez Campus, earning an Associate's Degree. I then earned my Bachelor's and Master of Science in Elementary Education degrees at Alcorn State University in 2000 and 2014. I received my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

The 2021-2022 school year will mark my 21st year in education with the Natchez-Adams School District. I have served as an elementary math and science teacher, lead teacher, 2014 Frazier Teacher of the Year, Librarian, MTSS/Testing Coordinator, and Assistant Principal with McLaurin for the last three years.

Although I am an educator, I am also a mother, wife, and grandmother. I firmly believe that every child can exceed and that the cooperation between home and school builds trust and self-esteem so that students can use their highest potential to shape their future and the future of our community and our nation. It is my goal to advance the culture of excellence here at GMES; I am devoted to continually exploring new ideas to meet the needs of all students and to interact with parents and community members more efficiently.
I  look forward to meeting with the staff, parents, and students throughout the year to identify specific goals in the areas of student achievement, school climate and culture, and parent communication. I believe that all children can learn; some take a little more time to figure out how they learn and to make a difference in someone's life; you don't have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful, or perfect; you just have to care enough to be there. Mrs. Martin is humbled and honored to be a part of a great team of educators where children come first.

To our students, I cannot wait to see you all! I hope that you are excited about this coming school year. It is going to be a meaningful and fun year. We will be learning together to achieve the highest accomplishments.
