Hello, from the Substitute Teacher and Teacher Assistant Office.
My office is committed to ensuring that the District is properly staffed with trained, qualified substitute teachers and teacher assistants for its classrooms.
Our substitute teachers are trained and meet all District requirements. Teacher assistant applicants must meet district requirements prior to being deemed eligible for hire.

Substitute Teacher - Classified
Anyone that is interested in taking the Substitute Teacher test must have at least 24 college credit hours. To take the test, you must present an *official copy of your college transcript on the morning of testing. You must achieve a passing score on the test. Once you have passed the test, you must attend a Substitute Teacher Workshop. Information regarding the workshop will be shared with you or mailed to you at the address you have provided on your application. Testee will know before leaving whether they passed the test.
Substitute Teacher - Certified
If you have a current license from the Mississippi Department of Education, you are not required to take the test. However, to sub with the District you must:
- Present a copy of your certification;
- Complete and clear a background check with the District, at your expense ($40.00);
- Complete payroll authorization paperwork;
- Receive notification that you are officially on the NASD Substitute List.
Anyone that is interested in taking the teacher assistant test must have at least 48 college credit hours. To take the test, you must present an *official copy of your college transcript on the morning of testing. You must meet the minimum required passing grade; if you meet the minimum grade then your name will be put on a list of highly qualified teacher assistants. This list is provided to school administrators. When a vacancy becomes available candidates will be chosen from the list for interviews. However, if you do not meet the minimum required passing grade on the test you will be informed following the test. Additionally, a letter will be mailed to the address that you provided on your application. Anyone who does not pass the test will be eligible for retesting one year from the date of your test. Print your name on the application and answer sheet. If you are successful passing the test, it is recommended that you apply for positions through the District’s online application process also.
Tests will not be administered with unofficial transcript copy.
Official – Copy must be sealed.
Tests are administered weekly, on Thursday’s beginning at 9:30 am, in Room 212 of the Braden Administration Building.
Please do not have transcripts mailed to the school district.
