Important Facts for Parents

As parents, you are the biggest supporters of your children’s learning. Thank you for entrusting us with the important job of educating your children. Following is a list of important information that will be helpful for you and your child. Please read it carefully.
 
  • Only 9th-grade students attend Natchez Freshman Academy
  • Natchez Freshman Academy is located on a secure, centralized site.
  • Our accountability (letter grade) is shared with Natchez High School.
  • Approximately 175 students attend NFA.
  • Small class sizes ensure that students get the most out of their time here at NFA.
  • Students are on a 6-period schedule with a minimum of 65 minutes of instructional time in each class.
  • Students may enter the building at 7:30 a.m. School starts at 8:15 a.m.
  • Parents must enter the building to check students in after 8:15 a.m. No checkouts are permitted after 2:15 p.m.
  • Major emphasis is placed on supervision of our students at all times. It's almost impossible for students to skip classes.
  • Students are required to report directly to the school cafeteria as soon as they arrive on campus. After leaving the cafeteria, all boys must report to the gym and the girls must report to the library.
  • Teachers have universal rules and guidelines that students are required to follow.
  • Teachers are instructed to lock their classroom doors after the tardy bell sounds during transitional times.
  • NFA offers technology-based learning with Promethean boards in each classroom.
  • Textbooks are available in most content areas for parents to check out as reinforcement. See Mr. Hooper for assistance.
  • NFA offers a wide variety of elective classes: art, band, AFJROTC, general music, health, drug education, physical education, safety education, JMG
  • For concerns or to schedule a parent-teacher conference, contact the school at 601-445-2941.
  • You are welcomed and encouraged to visit the school and your child's classrooms as frequently as possible.
  • Administrators will ensure that students are nurtured and treated with the utmost respect.
  • Emphasis is placed on ensuring that students follow school and district rules as we help prepare them to be self-disciplined in the future.
  • 9th-grade students are administered 3 subject area tests: Biology I, Algebra 1 and English II
