Student Personal Identifiable Information Breach

On May 13, 2021, the Mississippi Department of Education’s (MDE) Office of Compulsory School Attendance Enforcement (OCSAE) experienced a break-in at its Natchez-Adams office at Natchez High School. Office equipment containing our student database was stolen.  As a precaution, we are notifying you that your personal information may have been compromised. Student databases do not contain Social Security Information; however, student identification numbers, birth dates, and addresses are records within that database. We recommend you monitor your credit and identity information closely.

There is no indication that any of this stolen information has been used. MDE-OSCAE has cooperated fully with the Natchez-Adams School District and Natchez-Adams School District Police Department in this matter. Further, we have examined our internal processes and will implement additional methods of protecting student information. The MDE is deeply committed to protecting the confidentiality of student data. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

LaRenda J. Harrison, Ed.D.

Bureau Director, Office of Compulsory School Attendance Enforcement
