SOAR Students Recognize Parents, Teachers, and Mentors as Giraffe Heroes

Thanks to District SOAR teachers and their very hands-on teaching, students had an opportunity to think about the positive impact individuals have played in their lives. Each student chose mentors to receive the Giraffe Heroes Award. They interviewed and wrote an essay about the person they selected. The recipients each received a Giraffe gift handmade out of recycled material by the student.

CanDamion Hawkins chose his principal, Dr. Perry Revels as his hero. “I chose him because His kind words over the intercom each week reassures me that I can overcome anything I am faced with.” Said CanDamion.

Kahari McNeal choice his mother. “I chose her because she has sacrificed endless time and effort making sure that she puts her heart into teaching so that kids can have a better future. She has made a difference in many kids' lives by affecting the way they see school and encouraging them to take it seriously,” said Kahari.
