We want our students to “B” Ready for MAAP!

Robert Lewis Magnet School MAAP Testing Schedule

What is MAAP?

The Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) measures students’ academic growth from elementary through high school. Student progress is measured from grades 3 through 8 with annual tests in English Language Arts and Mathematics and in high school Algebra I and English II. MAAP assessments are designed to let parents know how their child is progressing and to give teachers more information to guide instruction. The goal of MAAP is to evaluate and monitor student learning to ensure students develop the knowledge and skills they need to graduate prepared for college or careers. The assessments will be administered online for grades 3 through 8 and high school (ELA, Mathematics, Writing, Science). The testing window is April 15-May 17, 2019.

What type of Items should a student expect on the Test?

  • Performance Task – ELA & Math: Students will read each test item and respond appropriately by utilizing information from the test item or passage.
  • Closed-Ended Items – ELA & Math: Multiple-choice items with one or more answer choices, or options.
  • Open-Ended Items – ELA & Math: Multiple-choice items (drag and drop), (match), and some two-part items.

Will, my child use a Calculator?

Allowable calculators
  • Grades 6 and 7: Four-function with square root and percentage functions
  • Grade 8: Scientific calculators

How can I tell if my child is being successful?

Assessment results may be used for instructional planning, as a point of reference during a parent/teacher conference, and for permanent record keeping. Other sources of information, such as classroom performance, should be used along with this report when determining the student’s areas of strength or need.

How can I help my child perform well on the MAAP Assessments?

  1. Motivate your child! Give your child encouraging words each day!
  2. See that they get a good night’s rest. Do something relaxing before bedtime. Be present everyday!
  3. Give them a healthy meal the night before and make sure a well-balanced breakfast is served the day of testing.
  4. Remind them to read and listen carefully to the directions and ask questions to obtain an understanding.
  5. Encourage your child to work hard and focus on each question to the very last question on the test.
  6. Remind them to not rush and not spend too much time on one question. The MAAP (ELA, Mathematics, 8th grade MS Science) are all timed.
  7. Remind them that eliminating answer choices is a good practice.
  8. NO CELLS PHONES OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED! Students will be required to turn in devices at the beginning of school before 8:00 am. Devices will be returned after testing is concluded for the day.
  9. Remind your child to finish the test – and celebrate completion!
