Coach Wesley's Students Take Care of Rice Babies for a Parenting Project

submitted by Kyla Smith, 10th grade English Educator Natchez High School

Natchez High School’s very own Coach Wesley has yet again completed another successful “Rice baby” project. For the past five years and even through the trials of the pandemic, the students of NHS have maintained their “babies”. In this project, students are given a bag of rice to care for as they would a real child including, but not limited to feeding, clothing, and changing them. It is a time-honored tradition and the students look forward to it every year. With all this in mind, the objective of the project is to care, caring for others especially. This is why all rice babies, totaling 600lbs of rice, will be donated to Stew Pot, a local community kitchen, to give back to Natchez.
