Iris Myles-12th Grade Counselor

Iris Washington Myles
Myles is a National Board Certified Counselor and a National Board Certified School Counselor. She is employed by the Natchez-Adams School District in Natchez, MS at Natchez High School. She works as the Junior Counselor (12th grade) but she assists students of all ages. Her main objectives include fulfilling the needs of the student group in which she works. Some of those needs include college and career guidance, individual and group counseling, reviewing student records and scheduling students for courses that are necessary to meet the graduations requirements set forth by the State of Mississippi and the District. One of the most important objectives is working with students to register, prepare and take the ACT. Maintaining a great grade point average is priority number one, but obtaining a good ACT score is number two. As it relates to college entrance and scholarships, the
higher these numbers are, the better the opportunities.

Before becoming a Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Myles attended Grambling State University on an academic scholarship and graduated valedictorian of her class with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology (Pre-Medicine). However, she decided to stay close to home and accepted a position teaching Biology I, Physical Science and Biology II at Natchez High School. After teaching for a few years, she decided to pursue a Master of Education Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Alcorn State University. This degree would allow her the opportunity to work more closely with students by helping them to bridge the gap between high school and college or career. After teaching for 6 years, Mrs. Myles accepted the assignment of Senior Counselor in the Natchez High School Guidance Office. It was her dream to help students to know their choices in life and show them how to achieve their goals. In addition, Mrs. Myles is a certified Vocational Counselor and has worked within that realm also at the District’s Fallin
Career and Technology Center.

Mrs. Myles enjoys hunting, fishing, watching television and spending time with her family.

She is always available to her students on and off the job. She can be reached at [email protected] if you have any questions.
